日常でも「（人）に～させる」という表現を使うことがあります。英文契約書では、当事者も契約内容を順守・履行するが、その関係者にも契約内容を順守・履行させるという内容を様々な単語・用語で表現します。
その中から今回は、「cause」と「impose」を使って「（人）にも行わせる」の表現を契約書翻訳の観点から見てみます。
「cause」は、名詞では、原因、理由、根拠、正当な理由、主張、主義、訴訟などに意味があり、動詞として「に～させる」、「～の原因となる」、「～を引き起こす」，「～をもたらす」の意味があります。下記は「に～させる」について作成した例文です。
Party A will hold and will cause their respective representatives to hold in confidence all documents and information concerning the Party B furnished to Party A.（甲は、乙が甲に提供したすべての文書及び情報の機密を保持し、また、自社の各々の代表者にもその機密を保持させるものとする。）
Party A shall cause each related party to keep confidential, and cause its affiliates and its and their officers, directors, employees and advisors to keep confidential, all information relating to Party A’s businesses.（甲は、関連当事者に対し、甲の事業に関連するすべての情報の機密を保持させ、また、その系列会社と甲、および、これらの役員、取締役、従業員および顧問に対し、前記の機密を保持させるものとする。）
The Contractor shall cause its subcontractor to carry their identification cards when conducing the site survey. （請負業者は、現地調査を実施する際に、下請業者に身分証明書を携帯させるものとする）
Party A shall cause its customers to agree the safety management rules listed in the following Table 1.（当事者Aは、顧客に次の表1に記載の安全管理基準に同意させるものとする。）
In the event that the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries deems necessary, he/she shall cause its employees to cooperate with Prevalence Reconnaissance Business by prefectures. （農林水産大臣は、必要があると認めるときは、その職員をして都道府県の発生予察事業に協力させる。）（種苗法）
この「cause somebody to do」のほかに、「に～させる」「compel somebody to do」、「force somebody to do」などがあります。
2. Impose.
語源的には、「上に置く」の意味合いがあるため、（政府等の強制力があるentityが）（制裁・税・罰金などを）（人・物に）課する、強制する。（責任・負担などを）（人などに）負わせる，押しつける等の意味があります。
経験的に英文契約書で良く見かける「impose」の用法は、主に「～に～を課する」、「～に～を強いる」が多いようです。
The distributor shall provide repair services without imposing a financial burden on customers（販売代理店は、顧客に金銭的負担を強いることなく、修理サービスを提供する）なを、この文章は通常、こんな感じになります。「The distributor shall provide customers with repair services without cost.」
The Government imposed the high taxation. （政府は高い税を課した。）
作成した下記の例文は、「impose」の用法としてよく目にするものです。
The parties hereto shall impose the same obligation of the Confidentiality equivalent to that of this Agreement on third party and shall assume the responsibility to cause the third party to observe it.（本契約の両当事者は、第三者との間において本契約におけるものと同様の義務を負わせ、これを順守させる義務を負う。）
The Company may impose additional security requirements from time to time by written notice.（会社は、書面による通知により適切な時期に追加の安全要件を課すことができる。）
Party A reserves the right to impose a late penalty interest according to delay damages under Civil Code.（会社は、 民法の損害遅延金に関する条項に基づき遅延利息を課す権利を留保する。）
「に～させる」または「～させる」という表現は、上記のほかにもいろいろな用語・単語を使用したものがあります。これらについては、機会を改めてとりあげます。
