unless自体は英文契約書で使われるだけの単語というわけではありませんが、他の語と組み合わされて成句を作り、独特の使われ方をする場合があります。unlessは「使いづらい、わかりにくい」と感じている方も多いと思いますが、ネイティブが非常によく使う接続詞です。
1. unlessの意味
接続詞としての意味：…でない限り、もし…でなければ、〜を除いては、ただし〜の場合を除く
通常 if…notと言い換えられますが、unlessで始まる成句の内容が実際に起こる確率の方が低い場合が多く、「起こるとは思わなかった事が発生した場合には」という表現になっています。
2. unlessの成句
英文契約書で、よく目にする成句をいくつか取り上げてみました。
unless any objection is reserved（ただし、異議をとどめたときは、この限りでない。）
unless any other intention is manifested （別段の意思表示がないときは)
unless the context requires otherwise（文脈上他の意味に解すべき場合を除き）等があります。
その他、otherwiseと一緒になり、以下のように使用されます。
unless otherwise indicated above （上記において別段の指示がある場合を除き）
unless otherwise noted（特に規定する場合を除く）
unless otherwise stated （特に明記される場合を除き）
unless otherwise terminated（その他解除される場合を除き）
unless otherwise provided for in this Agreement（本契約に別段の定めがある場合を除き）
unless otherwise specifically set out in the Agreement（本契約にその他特段に規定される場合を除き）
unless otherwise agreed in writing （書面により別段の同意がある場合を除き）
unless otherwise agreed by the parties hereto （その他本契約の当事者が合意する場合を除き）
この他にも状況に応じた多くの表現があります。
以下は、unlessを使用した例文です。
Payment shall be made in US Dollars unless otherwise stated in the Purchase Order （注文書にその他記載する場合を除き、支払いは米ドルとする）
Unless otherwise provided for by law, shareholders shall have the stock purchase right.（株主は、法律の定める場合を除いて、新株について引受権を有する。
The residual assets in the case of the dissolution of a Financial Instruments Membership Corporation shall be distributed equally among its members, unless otherwise stipulated by the articles of incorporation or resolution of a general meeting.（金融商品会員制法人が解散した場合における残余財産は、定款又は総会の決議により別に定める場合のほか、会員に平等に分配しなければならない。）（金融商品取引法）
3. unlessの類似表現
「except〜（〜を除いて）」、「except that〜（〜の場合を除いて）」、「except as」、「if〜not（もし〜でなければ）」等がunlessの代わりに使用されることがあります。
Except as set forth in Schedule1（附則1に規定される場合を除き）
Except as otherwise provided herein, neither party may unilaterally terminate this Agreement.（本契約によりその他特段の定めがある場合を除き、いずれの当事者も、一方的に、本契約を解除することはできない。）
Except as expressly permitted under this Agreement（本契約において明示的に許可される場合を除き）
Except as otherwise provided for in the Article of Incorporation,（定款に別段の定めのある場合を除き）
A request for issuance of a warrant or examination of a witness shall be accompanied with the document set forth in item (iii) of Article 2; except that this shall not apply when a treaty provides otherwise.

This function can be disabled if not required.（この機能を使用しない場合は無効にできます。）
契約書翻訳の観点から「unless」とその類語について簡単に見てみましたが、最後に最近、たまたまツイッターで送られて来た、インドのラジニーシ（Rajneesh）（1931-1990）の言葉で「unless」について終わります。
The heart is like a flower. Unless it is open, it cannot release its fragrance into the world! 直訳的に読むと（心は花の様です。開いていない場合、その香りを世界に放つことはできません！）ですが、実際にはこんな感じになると思います。（心は花の様！開いてこそ、その香りは世界に解き放されます！）
